The crafts we work with have survived for centuries—not through mass production, but through care, respect, and an understanding that things worth making are worth keeping.

That philosophy guides everything we do.

Our Materials

For DIY Kits

All our DIY kits use FSC-certified wood—meaning it comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.

We choose woods that are durable, beautiful, and appropriate for each design: bamboo for flexibility, walnut for depth, pine for lightness. No particle board, no MDF, no shortcuts.

The finishes we include are non-toxic and water-based, safe for your hands and safe for the planet.

For Accessories

Our fabric accessories use natural materials wherever possible: silk, cotton, linen, and wool. Synthetic blends are used only when they improve durability without compromising the aesthetic—and always noted clearly in product descriptions.

Our metal accessories (hair pins, jewelry) are made from brass, silver, or copper—materials that age beautifully and can be recycled.

Our Packaging

We hate waste as much as you do.

  • No plastic – All our packaging is plastic-free. Your products arrive in paper boxes or fabric pouches, secured with paper tape.

  • Minimal design – We skip the fancy inserts, glossy folders, and excess layers. Beautiful, simple, protective—that's enough.

  • Reusable materials – Many of our packaging pieces are designed to be reused. Our fabric pouches make great jewelry bags or gift wraps. Our boxes can store your DIY projects or become part of them.

If you receive something in packaging that can't be easily recycled, email us. We're always learning and improving.

Our Production

For DIY Kits

Our kits are designed by us and produced in small batches by partner workshops we've visited personally. We don't mass-produce and warehouse thousands of units—we make what we need, when we need it, reducing waste.

Every kit is quality-checked by hand before it ships. This takes time, but it means fewer returns, less waste, and happier customers.

For Accessories

We source directly from artisans and small workshops—not factories. This means:

  • No middlemen, so artisans keep more of the value

  • Small-batch production, so nothing is made "just in case"

  • Traditional techniques, so quality is built in, not inspected in

Longevity Over Trends

The most sustainable product is the one you never throw away.

We don't chase fast fashion or seasonal trends. Our designs are rooted in patterns and motifs that have been beautiful for centuries—and will be beautiful for centuries more.

Our DIY kits aren't one-time crafts. Once built, they become permanent objects: lanterns you light year after year, screens that divide your space, scholar's rocks that sit on your shelf for decades.

Our accessories are made to last—materials that age gracefully, designs that don't go out of style.

Giving Back

A portion of every purchase goes to craft preservation programs in China—initiatives that help young people learn traditional skills, support elderly artisans, and document techniques before they disappear.

We're small, so our contributions are small. But we believe that every bit helps keep these beautiful traditions alive for another generation.
